Dear Literacy Advocates, School Leaders, Educators and Teachers:
The Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP), is pleased to announce its National Convention on“Integrating the New Literacies in the K-12 Curriculum”Philippine International Convention Center, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Manila on May 15-17, 2014.
The event aims to gather kindergarten, elementary and secondary school teachers from the public and private schools, pre-service teachers, administrators, supervisors, language specialists and researchers to enable them to (1) acquire a broader perspective of the new literacies and their relevance in the 21st century life; (2) develop a heightened awareness of how the new literacies can be integrated in the curriculum, across levels and subject areas; (3) engage in discussions on how to plan lessons to develop learners’ new literacies; (4) use appropriate strategies to achieve learning outcomes targeted in the K-12 curriculum.
Dr. Jill Lewis-Spector, President-elect of the International Reading Association will be the Keynote Speaker of the event. Other plenary speakers are renowned literacy advocates in the academe, local and international organizations, non-government and government agencies. Confirmed speakers are Dr. Queena Lee-Chua (Ateneo de Manila University), Dr. Kelly A. Wonder (US Department of State), Dr. Patricia A. Arinto (University of the Philippines Open University), Atty. Alexander L. Lacson (Kabayanihan Foundation, Inc.), Mr. Nicolas de Ocampo (Center for New Cinema), Mr. Jerry Liao (TECH Tutor), Mr. Naderev Saño (Climate Change Commission), Mr. Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon (UNESCO), Mr. Pierangelo B. Alejo (SEAMEO INNOTECH), and Dr. Felicitas E. Pado (University of the Philippines).
